Mentoring

Now celebrating it's 10th year, the Urban Improv Mentoring Program matches caring adults with Boston’s fourth and fifth-graders in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Started in 1999 as an adjunct to Urban Improv, the program continues the mission to help inner city children deal creatively with issues in their lives and to help achieve established goals.

The mentor pair meets weekly after school or on weekends to explore new places and share new experiences while building a close and trusting relationship. The program provides an on-site location where mentors and children can review homework, cook a meal, or meet with other mentor pairs.

Frequent special events are planned both at the mentoring site and around the city. The children can participate in theater groups and creative arts summer camps offered by the organization and join together in other after-school workshops and community service activities.

The Urban Improv actors remain an active part of the mentoring community and customize scenes relevant to the group.
