Our Mission
Urban Improv’s mission is to promote positive youth development as a catalyst for violence prevention and social change.
The program strategically uses improvisational theater to provide young people a realistic and compelling forum to engage in self-exploration, practice self-expression and critical decision making.
By participating in an innovative, interactive curriculum, students develop the necessary skills of problem solving, cooperation, and leadership.
Young people witness the consequences of their choices unfold right before their eyes. The methodology taps participants' creativity to address issues such as violence, bullying, racism, peer pressure, and homophobia.
Urban Improv is designed to be a rehearsal for life in some of its most challenging moments. In setting this stage, we aspire to inspire and empower at-risk youth to transform their own lives.
Our program is based on best practices research and has been proven effective in reducing youth violence.
